In line with efforts to strengthen cultural identity and instill civilizational values in younger generations, the ICESCO Regional Office in Sharjah participated in "Sharjah Heritage Days – 22nd Edition," held under the theme "Roots" from 12 to 23 February 2025 in the Emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, with broad participation from Member States and experts and specialists in heritage and culture. This participation aligns with ICESCO's ongoing efforts to support Islamic cultural heritage and strengthen its global presence, through initiatives that contribute to preserving cultural heritage and transmitting it to future generations.
The event served as an interactive cultural platform showcasing the diversity and richness of heritage across Member States, with the ICESCO pavilion offering a range of quality activities targeting children and families, including interactive presentations and innovative educational programs that introduce Islamic heritage through modern approaches combining entertainment and knowledge. Cultural and heritage exhibitions were also organized to highlight the features of Islamic cultural identity, alongside activities aimed at raising awareness of the importance of protecting intangible cultural heritage.
The participation further contributed to strengthening cultural exchange among Member States and highlighting the role of heritage as a bridge for civilizational connection, through artistic performances and traditional crafts reflecting the diversity of Islamic cultures. The initiatives presented drew wide interest from visitors, offering them a comprehensive cultural experience that combined education and entertainment, and contributed to reinforcing cultural values and strengthening a sense of belonging to civilizational identity.
This event falls within the strategic vision of the Emirate of Sharjah as a global hub for culture and heritage, and as an incubating environment for leading cultural initiatives. The ICESCO Regional Office in Sharjah continues its efforts to support cultural and heritage initiatives, and to raise community awareness of Islamic heritage, contributing to building communities that are conscious of their cultural roots and capable of meeting future demands, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and ICESCO's vision of safeguarding heritage and promoting cultural diversity.
