In line with ICESCO's commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage and strengthening the civilizational identity of peoples, the ICESCO Regional Office in Sharjah participated in the "Heritage Revival Forum," held from 18 to 19 May 2025 in the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of a distinguished group of experts, researchers, artisans, and decision-makers from various countries. This forum forms part of ongoing efforts to safeguard intangible cultural heritage and enhance its sustainability, thereby contributing to the transmission of traditional knowledge to future generations and reinforcing cultural identity amid rapid global change.
The forum served as an interactive platform to highlight the importance of heritage revival and its role in supporting sustainable cultural development, through discussions on best practices in heritage protection and raising community awareness of its value, alongside showcasing initiatives that connect generations with their authentic heritage. Participants also explored ways to harness educational and technological programs in heritage preservation, including support for the development of traditional crafts and the strengthening of their presence on the local and international cultural scene.
The forum further contributed to strengthening international cooperation in the field of cultural heritage and facilitating the exchange of expertise among cultural and academic institutions, supporting the development of effective policies and initiatives that help protect shared human heritage. Participants underscored the importance of integrating heritage into education systems and awareness programs, reinforcing individuals' connection to their cultural identity and encouraging innovation rooted in civilizational heritage.
This event falls within the strategic vision of the Emirate of Sharjah as a global hub for culture and heritage, and as an enabling environment for leading cultural initiatives. The ICESCO Regional Office in Sharjah continues its efforts to launch and support quality initiatives that promote cultural heritage and civilizational identity, contributing to the building of sustainable, knowledge-based societies that embrace cultural diversity, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the promotion of civilizational dialogue among peoples.
